Treasure Island Location
Treasure Island is part of the barrier islands on the western coast of Pinellas County. It is located just south of Madeira Beach and Johns Pass, and north of St Pete Beach.
There is a small beach that not many people know about near the South end of Sunset Beach in Treasure Island that is dog-friendly. It is on the Intracoastal, and the water is absolutely pristine and clear due to the constant circulation of the inlet that is right around the corner. Sometimes you can hear some great music from the restaurants and bars across the water, which is nice. There are only about 10 parking spaces, so the beach is rarely busy (make sure to bring quarters for parking). Many people pull up by boat and anchor as well and let their dog run around on the small narrow beach.
There is also a boardwalk that stretches around the entire peninsula of the inlet, that is really nice to walk, but can get super-hot during the summer! I would recommend this beach to anyone, even if you don’t have a four-legged friend. Make sure to go at low tide, during high tide the beach is hardly visible. If you bring your dog, be sure to bring poop bags, as they are not provided!.
Popular Johns Pass is just north of Treasure Island via Gulf Blvd. It has over 100 shops, lots of restaurants and bars, water sports outings, fishing, and lots more. It's a lot of fun and one of the most visited spots in all of Pinellas County.
Fort De Soto Park is an amazing Pinellas County park just 12 miles south. It is the southern tip of the County. It the largest park in the Pinellas County Park System. This wonderful park covers 1,136 acres on five interconnected islands (keys). There is a wide variety of beach plants, mangroves, wetlands, palm hammocks, hardwoods and native plants. It is a birdwatcher’s paradise with more than 328 species of birds. There are bike and walking trails, kayak rentals, fishing piers, picnic areas, and more. It has one of the few beaches in our area that is dog-friendly! No wonder it was named America’s Top Beach for 2009 by Trip Advisor.
Sand Key Park is another popular Pinellas County beachfront park just 15 miles north on Gulf Blvd. Pier 60 in Clearwater Beach is just a bit further north from Sand Key. It is a crowded but fun and lively spot to spend a day or evening. They have outdoor movies in the evenings on most weekends. There are great local restaurants and lots of adventures and excursions you can take at the nearby marina area.
