More About Snell Isle in St Petersburg

As you enter the Snell Isle neighborhood from the Old Northeast up Snell Isle Bridge from the south, you will instantly feel like you are in a very special Floridian neighborhood. This peninsula is home to about 1,000 single-family homes. About a third of the homes are on waterfront lots. 

The typical Snell Isle home is a 4-bedroom, 4-bath home with about 3,000 sq ft of living space. But there are a wide variety of choices from modest 1,400 sq ft 2 bedroom 2 bath layouts to palatial 5+ bedroom homes with over 5,000 sq ft of living area. Typically about three out of four homes sold have pools.

Most of the homes were built between the 1950s and the 1970s, but many have undergone major renovations and updates. There have also been a number of new builds.

Snell Isle is home to the St. Petersburg Yacht Club’s Snell Isle Marina. The marina provides deep water slips and direct access to beautiful Tampa Bay. It also offers a fueling station and a ship’s store. 

Another prominent Snell Isle landmark is the St. Petersburg Women’s Club. It is located to the left just as you cross the Snell Island Blvd Bridge from the Historic Old Northeast.

Location

Snell Isle is located about 2 miles north of downtown Saint Petersburg. It is separated from the Old Northeast by the Coffeepot Bayou. As a reference point, the Snell Isle Marina is located in the northeast section at 1305 Snell Isle Blvd NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33704.

To get to Downtown St Petersburg, you simply cross the Snell Isle Blvd Bridge, turn left on Coffeepot Blvd NE, then turn right on Beach Drive. Alternatively, you can cross the bridge, head west on 22nd Ave NE, then head south on 4th Street N (State Road 92). Either way, it’s only about two miles or ten minutes or so to Downtown.

To get to I-275 to Tampa or to go south, you just take 22nd Ave west to I-275. The Tampa International Airport is only a 20-minute drive north.

What’s Nearby

The Vinoy Golf Club is centrally located on Snell Isle. The club has quite a history. It was purchased in 1932 as the Coffee Pot Golf Course on Snell Island for only $156,000. It has been updated and expanded and operates as the Vinoy® Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club. They invite golfers of all skill levels to test their skills on the Ron Garl-designed, championship 18-hole course. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ten minutes south, downtown Saint Petersburg Fl is the dining and entertainment center for Pinellas County. Enjoy sampling a wide variety of local dining spots, bars, and microbreweries. The 3,190-acre Weedon Island Preserve nature area is located just 7 miles north of the community. Paddlers can bring their own vessel or rent a canoe or kayak from Sweetwater Kayaks.
