The beaches from Clearwater Beach to St Pete Beach are known for their stunning white sand and sparkling waters. But the beaches south of Clearwater Beach also have an "Old Florida" feel to them that you might find hard to duplicate in other areas.
Clearwater Beach is the best known, and northernmost beach of the Pinellas County Gulf Beaches. It has won awards for its sandy beaches and sparkling blue-green waters. It has the most activity, and the most restaurants and things to do. So if you are looking for lots of activities, and things to do it is a great choice. The middle beaches include Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, the Redington Beaches, and Madeira Beach. These beaches have more of an "Old Florida" feel with the condos part of the local community. There are fewer high-rise condos and more mid-rise and boutique condos here.
Some of our favorite beachfront condos on the middle beaches include:
Beach Cottage, Indian Shores - The courtyard feels like a tropical paradise has an amazing pool area with a huge deck where you can relax and enjoy the Gulf breezes.
Tides Beach Club, Redington Beach - With 6 buildings and over 200 units, this is one of the largest and most popular beachfront condos on the middle beaches. The Tides offers full-on beachfront views, three pools, and resort-style amenities including three beachfront pools, a fitness center, a conference center, an entertainment area, a television room, an arcade center, and a billiard room.
La Contessa, Redington Beach - La Contessa is a beautiful mid-rise building offering spacious three-bedroom layouts with direct beach views. There is even a semi-private pier secured with your condo key.
Redington Towers, Redington Beach - This large condo community offers moderately priced beachfront condos and lots of amenities like the Gulf-side pool, clubhouse, fitness center, sauna, and gated security.
The lower beaches include Treasure Island and St Pete Beach. St Pete Beach is the southernmost of the barrier island beaches of Pinellas County. St Pete Beach officially changed its name from St Petersburg Beach to the shorter St Pete Beach in 1994 to more clearly distinguish itself from St Petersburg a few miles east on the mainland.
There are some "hidden gems" on the southern beaches. Below are a few of our favorite beachfront condos on the lower beaches:
Mansions by The Sea, Treasure Island - The 136 condo units are housed in two towers right on the Southern tip of Sunset Beach in Treasure Island. The community has a wide assortment of amenities including a sparkling pool, community room, fitness center, 2 spas, game room, library, tennis courts, shuffleboard, outdoor grills, and more.
Lands End, Treasure Island - Lands End is on 14 acres of land on the southern tip of Treasure Island. It's a great location with the Gulf of Mexico to the west, and the Intracoastal Waterway to the east. There is even a dog beach shore of the Intracoastal!
The beachfront condos on Anna Maria Island are low-rise configurations due to community height restrictions. To us, the beaches from Longboat Key to Siesta Key have a more urban and metropolitan feel than the Pinellas beaches. There is elegant boutique shopping in the middle of the island chain at St Armands Circle on Lido Key. You also have easy access to the major urban areas of Bradenton and Sarasota.
There are generally a limited number of beachfront condos on Anna Maria Island. The Island includes Anna Maria on the northern end, Holmes Beach in the middle, and Bradenton Beach on the southern end. Due to local zoning restrictions, the condos on Anna Maria Island are all low-rise configurations. See the Anna Maria Beachfront Condos.
Longboat Key stretches almost 11 miles from just south of Anna Maria Island to Lido Key. The northern portion is in Manatee County and the southern portion is in Sarasota County. See the Longboat Key Beachfront Condos.
Siesta Key is actually part of the city of Sarasota Florida, in Sarasota County. It offers three beaches which have a very different feel. Siesta Beach is the northernmost beach. It offers a plethora of County provided amenities including lifeguards, a shelter pavilion, picnic areas, playgrounds, and restrooms. The middle beach is Crescent Beach. Crescent Beach is generally far less crowded than Siesta Beach. There are no formal amenities like Siesta Beach, it’s a beautiful place to spend the day. The southernmost beach is Turtle Beach. It does have some amenities that include: canoe/kayak launch, playground, volleyball court, horseshoe pit, picnic pavilion, picnic shelters, grills, park benches, classroom, outdoor showers, restrooms, and parking. See the Siesta Key Beachfront Condos.
